Jules’ ambition: a renowned Tech Player in the energy transition
Our goal is to participate and contribute to the deployment of new market models in liberalised energy markets with new IT-technology. These changes are driven and even dictated by the shift from controlled fossil energy production to intermittent green energy production as well as from a centralised to a decentralised production model. The traditional value chain of the energy market is being upended. The age-old distribution model offers a linear value chain: energy generators create a wholesale product that is handled and distributed to the paying consumer. With a renewable and decentralised energy landscape the traditional value chain is obsolete.
A new order with new roles, new possibilities
With the new market design new roles need to be filled to ensure processes and resources are linked and managed effectively. These roles bring real possibilities for adding value to the energy supply mechanism, and all stakeholders can profit from these – either directly or because they support a better energy ecosystem. This is exactly the playing field where Jules stands out and offers various technological solutions. We care about unlocking value that emerges in the new distributed energy economy.
The distribution model shifts towards something approaching a ‘sharing economy’ model. In this model value is achieved with each transaction, leading to a complex value-web instead of a chain. Harnessing the value of these transactions can provide energy users with access to new revenue streams and hence contribute to the energy transition. Truly and increasingly energy users are driven by self-interested objectives. For most, they primarily wish to attain a degree of resilience and continuity, a diminished reliance on external power supplies, and reduced costs.
An important characteristic of the new distributed energy economy is that value is also distributed: the opportunities for revenue are individually smaller but very, very frequent. This is done by individual and self serviced execution of energy transactions. Frequent energy trading by end users on spot and future markets will be adopted by users and become widespread. The market opportunity identified by Jules is these transactions can only be managed by automated systems that reduce the service burden and increase overall efficiency.
At Jules, we have developed a suite of platforms and services that help energy companies give their B2B energy customers access to this new world. Using a simple dashboard, customers are able to easily manage and optimise energy assets, consumption and generation. Starting with the simplest services that have the biggest impact on business-models, energy companies are now more able to provide the access to the energy market that the customer needs to grow.
